February 8th 2006 marked the third anniversary of our moving into our present accomodation, and there is still a lot of work to be done. Our building programme is in full swing, and work is currently taking place on our chapel. The support services we offer through our family life and women's ministries programmes are making a difference to the individuals we make contact with. Watch these pages for more on these in the coming weeks.

You are always welcome to come and visit us.

Hope to see you some time!

The Plumstead Pathfinder club goes camping at least once a year. The campsites are usually located in the UK, and ocassionally on special ocassions we may join a larger Camporee event taking place somewhere in Europe or the USA.

Camping is hard work, but very enjoyable and rewarding. We take camping seriously and ensure that the principles of health, safety and rules of conduct are used when camping in dedicated campsites or in the wilderness. When camping we seek to develope in the youth a personal philosophy of outdoor etiquette, such as courtesy to other campers and outdoor conservation.

Camping provides the youth with good skills for surviving outdoors, an appreciation for nature and they can also earn honor badges from their camping experiences.

Some of the things that are taught in camping are:

1. Factors to consider when choosing a campsite eg. safe water supply, sanitary facilities, weather and terrain

2. Know and practice safety rules in camping.

3. Setting up a campsite: Preparing the ground for comfortable sleeping, correctly pitch and strike a tent, preparing a proper safe area for a campfire, how to protect a camp against animals/bad weather/insects, taking care of the environment while camping and leaving the area with no trace of being there.

4. Eight things to do if lost, how to collect and purify drinking water, know three methods of determining directions without a compass.

And much, much more...
